Murchison and Dookie Rail Trails

Shepparton &  Goulburn Valley is home to not one, but two Rail Trails in Dookie and Murchison. The Dookie Rail Trail offers a short, scenic ride for cyclists through a classic Australian cropping landscape.

The Murchison Rail Trail follows part of the former Rushworth-Murchison to Melbourne railway, and offers a short, scenic cycle or walk through the significant river red gum wetlands of Doctor’s Swamp.

 

Australian Botanic Gardens

Stop and smell the fresh country air at the Australian Botanic Gardens, in Kialla. 

 

Mount Major

For the mountain bike enthusiasts there is a purpose built mountain bike park at Mt Major near Dookie, providing a variety of downhill and cross country circuits. 

For the hiker, take the Mulana nin iyoga walking trail to the top of Mount Major. This 4.6km return walk offers spectacular views in spring.

Collect a River Connect Bird Bingo sheet from the Visitor Centre, or download a copy and take a stroll with the family around Victoria Park Lake. How many different bird species can you find? 

Wetlands are among Victoria’s most valuable and endangered water environments. They provide a safe place for local wildlife and play a critical role in improving water quality. The Victoria Park Lake has a constructed wetland composed of a series of ponds planted with indigenous water plants and is home to many different bird species and wildlife.
