Tucked away in a little court on the north end of Shepparton, the North End Bakehouse, a humble little bakery has become a national sensation since taking out the title.

The Baking Association of Australia held its annual Victorian Baking Show in Bendigo in March, where it crowned winners in numerous categories of baked goods, pastries and sweets. 

Shepparton & Goulburn Valley's own, North End Bakehouse has taken out the title for Australia's Best Vanilla Slice, scoring 97 out of a possible 100. 

North End Bakehouse has previously been awarded first place for the Best Hot Cross Bun in 2021 and 2022. This year they took out the Best Innovative Hot Cross Bun award for their Vegemite flavoured bun.

In addition to their regular baked goods, they're currently producing 1,200 slices a day and selling out daily.  We recommend you ring and place an order in advance, or get in early to avoid missing out! 

Plan your trip: they are open Monday to Friday, 7am to 4pm. Closed on public holidays and if a public holiday is on a Tuesday or a Thursday, they will close for a 4 day weekend.  They've earnt it with all the baking they're doing!

UPDATE: Since this blog was originally written, North End Bakehouse have again taken out the titles of Australia's Best Vanilla Slice and Australia's Best Hot Cross Bun in 2024. As well as The Great Australian Vanilla Slice Triumph in late 2023. 

They have also opened a second store in Mooroopna which is open 7am - 4.30pm Monday to Friday and 8am - 2pm Saturdays.
