Embodied Movement and Drawing Workshop at Loch Garry Wetlands on Yorta Yorta Country by Maggie Ellis, Rhae Kendrigan and Kris Tito.
Moving through a landscape can be considered drawing and vice versa, drawing a landscape can be reflected upon as movement!
In this workshop artists Maggie Ellis, Rhae Kendrigan and Kris Tito will take you on a series of gentle embodied investigations, connecting to the natural surroundings of Loch Garry Wetlands.
The artists will facilitate creative drawing and movement activities that will connect us to our bodies, the environment and each other.
The workshop will start at Bunbartha Community Centre, with doors opening at 9:30am, so that you can arrive and settle into the space.
In the centre you can spend time connecting with the artists’ creative research from their time spent at the wetlands and their open studio sharing with the Bunbartha community.
As a group we will carpool down to Loch Garry Wetlands from the centre, this will help reduce the number of vehicles entering the wetlands. Here we will explore a small number of locations through walking, contemplation and witnessing. We’ll listen to our senses taking notice of the differing speeds, movements, sounds, temperatures and textures of the wetlands. We’ll experiment with a range of creative techniques, including mark making with our bodies or with drawing materials, movement in the natural landscape and reflective discussions.
Finishing back at the centre, we’ll collate our creative findings as part of the artists research of Loch Garry Wetlands and the Bunbartha Community Centre. These experiments will inform the development of the artist’s performance the following day, as a celebration of the uniqueness of this place and community.
