The SAM Foundation is thrilled to bring acclaimed musical ensemble Flinders Quartet to the Shepparton Art Museum on 5 August for an exclusive musical performance and fundraising event.
One of Australia’s most loved and respected chamber music ensembles, Flinders Quartet are entering their third decade with acknowledged musical skill and maturity. This presentation sees the ensemble joined by erhu virtuoso Dong Ma for a performance of Yuin composer Brenda Gifford’s Dissipate – a composition commissioned by Flinders Quartet – followed by Bach’s Goldberg Variations arranged for erhu and string quartet by Julian Yu.
This special concert program is the culmination of extensive creative development and represents a true collaboration between talented musicians from different cultural backgrounds in a celebration of diversity, creativity, and the unifying power of music. Zoe Knighton, Flinders Quartet Artistic Director and cellist, says of the performance: “Our life’s work is centred around blending different sounds and different musical ideas into a cohesive artistic statement. This program has been incredibly rewarding and satisfying to create with the end result serving to facilitate musical conversations across time, geography and language.” Proceeds from the ticket sales will be used by the SAM Foundation to support future SAM programs and activities.
